I never really got into Daft Punk. But all the well-deserved hype over Random Access Memories made me dive into their catalogue. I got the Discovery album, which is amazing. And this song, “Get Lucky” made my voice immediately drop down an octave and say “DAYUM, that’s funky!” Pharrell Williams on the sweet vocals, who’s a smart and interesting guy despite his music being less so, and f-ing Niles Rodgers on guitar. Shamefully, I had no knowledge who Niles Rodgers was when I first heard this track. But as soon as I found out he played guitar on “Le Freak,” I was completely on board.

So it’s a mash-up of James Brown’s “Sex Machine” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” with a little bit of Aerosmith/Run DMC’s “Walk This Way” thrown in. It’s like a triple boner. And if it’s good enough for Jimmy Page, it’s good enough for everyone.

Who says you can’t do an a capella version of an instrumental?
This is in no way my endorsement of college a capella troupes. Under no circumstances should you ever invite me to a performance by your troop. And if you’re the kind of troupe that sings in the middle of busy hallways while people are trying to go places, I will open fire — most likely with a NERF brand weapon of some sort.

Now, I’m no linguist, but I think rapping in German is pretty difficult. It’s got a great tone for rap, though. Just imagine if Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were part of a group called “Niggaz mit Haltungen.”
But on to the video, which is bizarre and awesome at the same time — it’s bizawesome.
I found this gem on Cracked.com, in an article called, “4 Music Videos on Youtube That Will Make You a Better Person.” I admit, most of the things on Cracked won’t do you any good, by I endorse this article, which uses the tried and true “Just-post-a-bunch-of-good-stuff-other-people-made” formula for internet success.

Has this been hiding from me for 19 years?
First off, it’s a great song by Paul Simon — the man’s been on my mind for the past few weeks. I remember being this obsessed with a musician. When I was 7, it was N*Sync. At 13, it was Green Day. I turn 20 in a few weeks, now it’s Paul Simon. Am I becoming an adult, or is my taste in music improving? OR BOTH?

Documenting Nevermind

This is a documentary about the production of Nirvana’s Nevermind. I saw this a few days ago, and since today is the anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, I waited until today to post it.
It’s pretty cool watching Butch Vig talking about actually recording the album and being a super cool producer.
