We are not worthy.

THE KING. He’s been trying this for a while. Patience pays off (unless you’re Montreal Impact).

“Believing I had supernatural powers, I slammed into a brick wall…”

If, I’m not careful, this website will turn into some Paul Simon appreciation hub. Which is worse for me than it is for you.

Okay fine – one more!

2013 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

This was a solid set. President Obama’s obviously not a comic, but his delivery is pretty sharp. And this performance was remarkably different from years before. A lot of Obama’s jokes were risky; you can hear a lot of people groaning after them. It’s admirable that he just didn’t give a shit and powered through. “2nd TERM, BITCHES. I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!”

Regarding Stephen Spielbergs’s Obama, I’ll watch it as long as it’s not 3 hours long.

The President’s a tough act to follow, and it’s always an uphill battle for the guest comic (unless you’re Leno, then you can just coast). But Conan killed it. I expected nothing less. Came straight out of the gate and did what he does best. (Note to self: jokes about FOX News always work.

Up all night to get lucky

I never really got into Daft Punk. But all the well-deserved hype over Random Access Memories made me dive into their catalogue. I got the Discovery album, which is amazing. And this song, “Get Lucky” made my immediately drop down an octave and say “DAYUM, that’s funky!” Pharrell Williams on the sweet vocals, whom I think is a smart and interesting guy despite his music being less interesting, and f-ing Niles Rodgers on guitar. Shamefully, I had no knowledge who Niles Rodgers was when I first heard this track. But as soon as I found out he played guitar on “Le Freak,” I was completely on board.

Wait – I can just post my vines here!?

Whole Lotta Sex Machine

So it’s a mash-up of James Brown’s “Sex Machine” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” with a little bit of Aerosmith/Run DMC’s “Walk This Way” thrown in. It’s like a triple boner. And if it’s good enough for Jimmy Page, it’s good enough for everyone.

The Harlem Shake. It brings all the boys to the yard.

This “Harlem Shake” thing. It’s beyond words, and I can’t stop watching videos of it. Now I feel obliged to do one. All I need is more than three friends.

The “original”:

And this Father/Son duo, because it’s awesome parenting:

PAPERMAN

Paperman, which played before Wreck-It Ralph, is in the running for “Best Animated Short Film” at this year’s Oscars. Now we can all see why. The film blends in hand-drawn animation with computer-generated imagery to marvelous effect. Who else wants to throw paper planes out of tall buildings?

Melting like rabbits

There’s something hypnotic and perverse about watching chocolate bunnies meeting their liquid demise. I never liked eating them anyway, so this is a much better use for them in my book.
